Kimberly Bongon ANTE
Bachelor of Science in Biology, University of the Philippines Los Baños, Philipines 
 
Ms. Ante pursued a degree in Biology at the University of the Philippines Los Banos to feed her curiosity and hunger for discovery. She is set on becoming a scientist, focusing on environmental conservation and management and eventually seeing science in law-making and community governance. She was awarded Best Presenter at the 50th BIOTA Annual National Convention and Scientific Sessions with her undergraduate thesis. During working hours, she ensures the environmental compliance of the Department of Science and Technology 5 and works to make it an environmentally responsible office. She also assists in developing program proposals and implementing projects in her city as a community volunteer-consultant. With YSEALI, she hopes to gain more knowledge on resource management and implementing environmental projects, as well as learn best practices from the program and youth of other cultures.

Dian Anggi ARIYANTI
Bachelor of Agricultural Engineering, University of Brawijaya, Malang, East Java, Indonesia
 
Ms. Ariyanti received her bachelor training from the University of Brawijaya Malang and plans a career enhancing environmental awareness through educating the younger generation in West Papua. Ms. Ariyanti started her career in Manokwari West Papua as a staff in agricultural quarantine. Currently, she works as a trainer in a literacy program to improve the quality of reading and writing of elementary school children in peri-urban areas. In addition, she became a volunteer teacher on Lemon Island to raise environmental awareness through nature-based learning methods. Through YSEALI she aims to learn more about protecting the environment, managing water, waste treatment, and ecotourism, as well as improving leadership skills where she will use her knowledge to solve environmental problems in Papua.

Ahmad Norfitri "Fitri" BADERULNIZAM

Undergraduate Student in Law, International Islamic University, Malaysia
 
Mr. Baderulnizam is currently reading law at International Islamic University Malaysia. He believes in solving issues through good leadership and effective discussion. Hence, he is actively involved in Model United Nation and volunteering in various programs. His main interest is preserving traditional Malaysian textiles through sustainable, eco-ethical fashion production and consumerism. He advocates for growing a “green soul,” nurturing a sense of responsibility to nature, not just cultivating and mining it. He hopes through YSEALI, he would be able to contribute to environmental advocacy and green policy while looking good at the same.

Bachelor of Business Administration, Minor in Management,  Silliman University, Philippines
 
Mr. Calledo was born and raised in the islands of the Philippines and is both an active youth leader and advocate for the environment. He founded Straw Wars Philippines – an organization committed to reduce the use of single-use plastic drinking straws in the food service industry – and Yugto Eco Solutions – a social enterprise that hand makes sustainable products like bamboo straws with the help of local communities. He graduated from Silliman University with a degree in Business Administration, major in Management. He believes that businesses today have a strong influence on what has happened and will happen in our planet, and with this, he hopes to use this influence to improve the well-being of our environment.

Bachelor of Banking, Banking Academy of Vietnam, Hanoi, Vietnam
 
Ms. Duong graduated from the Banking Academy of Vietnam with a major in Banking. When she was in her third year, Ms. Duong realized that she really liked taking part in community activities, particularly educational projects. As a result, she began stepping outside the academic bubble to explore more. Ms. Duong has organized “Book Festivals” for the poor children in rural and mountainous areas and ran her own project named “Green seeds” which gained funding from “YSEALI Seeds for the Future” program, to support rural children in studying English with interactive and experimental learning tools. Currently, she is working at Live & Learn as an Education and Training officer, which involves field work in the most disadvantaged regions of Vietnam. She uses various training and action methods, which promote children’s participation and local people in understanding and mitigating disasters. Her career goal is to become a knowledgeable educator who can support teachers in creating a learning environment where children are respected and taught how to respect others and conserve natural resources. During her time in the US, Ms. Duong hopes to collect multiple stories and lessons from young people as well as experts, in terms of environmental education and sustainable development.

Fahmi DWILASKONO

Bachelor of Biotechnology, Sumbawa University of Technology, Indonesia
​

Mr. Dwilaksono received his Bachelor degree in Biotechnology at Sumbawa University of Technology. He has been a member of “Friends of the Earth” chapter Sumbawa since 2013. His project now is the Binong tree (Tetrameles nudiflora) plantations which where forest honeybees make their honeycomb. He is also involved with mangrove ecosystem conservation in Labuan Burung village which is projected to be an ecotourism hotspot in Sumbawa. He became staff of Human Resource Development Division in Indonesia Friends of the Earth in 2014. Through YSEALI, he hopes to learn about environmental management and maintain his project’s sustainability. He dreams to establish his organization to empower local residents on processing and preserving natural resources to improve their prosperity.

Marvin Bolvider GONZALES
Bachelor of Science in Fisheries, University of the Philippines, Visayas, Philippines
 
Mr. Gonzales developed a fascination with the ocean and marine life, which was the reason why he earned a degree in Fisheries from the University of the Philippines Visayas in 2016. He is currently working at PATH Foundation Philippines, Inc. as the Fisheries/Coastal Resource Management Officer of the USAID-funded SEAnergy Project. The goal of this project is to conserve the marine biodiversity in the Verde Island Passage, recognized as the “center of the center” of the world’s shore fish biodiversity.  He has assisted coastal communities in different provinces in the Philippines in conducting baseline and monitoring studies on coral, mangrove and seagrass ecosystems. He wishes to address problems on poverty, food security, and environmental degradation of the coastal areas. Through YSEALI, he believes he can further strengthen his leadership skills and acquire effective environmental management strategies in the US.

Muhammad Firdaus Bin Haji "Fir" ISMAIL 
​Undergraduate Student in Geography, University of Brunei Darussalam, Brunei
 
Mr. Ismail is a third-year student in University Brunei Darussalam, majoring in Geography. He has been Program Manager of Environmental Education at Green Brunei since 2014. He is a proactive youth leader advocating environmental issues and a founder of Green Leaders Camp. Mr. Ismail has represented Brunei; whether as delegate or youth speaker, for many local and international events including YSEALI Generation - Ideas into Action (Kuala Lumpur, 2012), Climate Change Movement (Beijing, 2012), and YSEALI Ocean (Jakarta, 2016). Mr. Ismail was the first Bruneian to receive the YSEALI Seeds for the Future grant, and successfully launched Borneo Eco Warriors last July in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. This year he was nominated for the National Youth Award. During the YSEALI Academic Fellowship, he wishes to gain a remarkable experience to learn about sustainable ocean conservation at the grassroots level.

Kaung Min "Kelvin" KHANT
​Undergraduate Student in Chemical Engineering, Yangon Technological University, Burma
 
Mr. Khant is currently a second year Chemical Engineering student at Yangon Technological University. After high school, Mr. Khant joined the iNature Environmental Club at the American Center in Yangon. He was a leader and volunteer there for two years organizing various projects and hosting events concerned with youth and climate change. Mr. Khant is deeply interested in water sanitation, as it is one of the most challenging problems in our future. He believes that, through YSEALI, he can develop a technology which will change our lives for the better.

Raksmeymony "Mony" KOUM

Bachelor of Science in Environment, Royal University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia
 
Ms. Koum is a fresh graduate from Royal University of Phnom Penh with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Environment. Recently she, together with her team in Young Eco Ambassador, initiated 10 Days Mission, a project aiming to provide clean and safe drinking water and better sanitation to schoolchildren by installing bio sand filters, washing hand stations, and distributing reusable bottles at rural schools in Cambodia. In 2016, Ms. Koum participated in the Asian Students Environment Platform in Japan and HONDA Young Engineer and Scientist's Award Program. She hopes joining the Institute will deepen her environmental understanding, particularly water issues analysis, encourage her to plan and implement more country-scale sustainable water projects, and pave her academic journey to pursue a Master's Degree in Hydrology and Water Resource Management.

Kaungsu "Moon" LAMIN

Ms. Lamin is currently working at Bridge Creative Agency as a Producer. Before that, she was a Production Team Assistant at BBC Media Action for BRACED Project. She graduated high school in 2011 and soon after attended Liberal Arts University majoring in Social Science. After YSEALI, she wants to produce her own documentary about deforestation and climate change in Myanmar. Joining YSEALI will give Ms. Lamin much information about environmental issues so that she can share it with her audiences.

Mai Thi Xuan LE

Ms. Le holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Tan Tao University. She loves being with animals and nature. Ever since Ms. Le was a sophomore, she has implemented projects about environmental issues, especially those protecting wildlife animals. Now she is proud to work at Action for Wildlife Organization as a Project Manager. By participating in this program, Ms. Le would like to meet, share, and learn from other participants about environmental knowledge both traditional and Western. She will apply the knowledge and experiences from this program to continue to conduct projects in her community, as well as contribute to the development of Action for Wildlife Organization.

​Nadhilah RAZAK
Master Student in Food Science Technology, University of Sains Malaysia, Malaysia
 
Ms. Razak is a Master student at the University Sains Malaysia with a degree in Food Science Technology. Her research is on the production of biodegradable film packaging to replace petroleum-based plastics. Recently, she was awarded a Gold Award in the International Invention, Innovation & Design Competition and Silver Award in the International Malaysia-Indonesia-Thailand Symposium 2017. She is the founder of a non-profit group called “i-SAHABAT”. It is a group to educate rural and elderly people in IT for free. Joining YSEALI, she hopes to enhance awareness, create stronger networks and be involved in making the world a better place for all.

Undergraduate Student in Forestry Faculty, University of North Sumatera, Indonesia
 
Mr. Ras studies forestry at the University of North Sumatera. He is an active member of the NGO, Community of Nature Conservation. Mr. Ras is a MAFULO volunteer that focuses on mangrove areas. He shared and campaigned on mangrove issues and their preservation in the International Competition “The 19th IMT-GT” that was held on August 2017. This competition involved various universities and students from three ASEAN countries (Indonesia-Malaysia and Thailand). Mr. Ras was the winner for best mix group for the seminar category. Developing nature conservation in urban areas is a primary interest for him. By participating in YSEALI, Mr. Ras hopes he can introduce Indonesian environmental knowledge to ASEAN friends, and learn lessons from other ASEAN peer innovators.

Anissa Megia "Megi" SARI

Bachelor of Science in Geography, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, Indonesia
 
Ms. Sari graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geography from the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta and a Diploma in Remote Sensing and GIS from Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Currently, she works at Misool Foundation as a community officer for the Lamakera Project, which focuses on the implementation of sustainable fisheries and livelihood strategy. Her passion for conservation and community empowerment brought her several scholarships and awards such as the Kemenristek Dikti Scholarship to Ohio State University in 2015, Best Essays at ICONIC, Nurnberg, Germany in 2014; Top 10 Finalist of Mahasiswa Berprestasi Nasional Competition held by the Minister of Education of Indonesia on 2014; and best exchange student of Gadjah Mada University in 2013. Through YSEALI, she desires to create change for marginalized communities in Eastern Indonesia, while also preserving their natural environment.

Naruebet "Bazz" SINGKHANAN

Bachelor of Marine Science, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand 
 
Mr. Singkhanan received a degree in Marine Science from the Department of Marine Science, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University in 2017. Mr. Singkhanan’s research looked at technologies for using fish hematology to assess environmental conditions in the estuarine. Mr. Singkhanan is participating in YSEALI because he hopes to learn something new, gain necessary skills for success and create a network of colleagues and friends from the US and ASEAN. He wants to exchange and share experiences on the nexus of environmental issues and solutions. Finally, Mr. Singkhanan hopes this program will be beneficial for him in pursuing a higher degree and will inspire him to identify his next topic of research.

Wanutpong "Po" SIRIWIPHANAN

Undergraduate Student in Environmental Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand 
 
Mr. Siriwiphanan is studying for his degree in Environmental Engineering at Chulalongkorn University. Last semester he received a scholarship to Nagaoka University of Technology in Japan to do a project about coastal erosion. He continues his work today on coastal change, mainly focusing on coastal erosion in the Prajuabkirikhan province in Thailand. He applied for the YSEALI program because he wants to see how other countries manage and solve coastal problems. He hopes he will find some new ideas that he can apply in his country’s coastal problem management. In his free time, he loves to do outdoor activities such as scuba diving, trekking and playing water sports.

Chivorn SOKH

Bachelor of Sustainable Interior Design, Phnom Penh International Institute of the Arts, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
 
Mr. Sokh always felt connected with nature and animals growing up. Seeing forest and wildlife threats in his country pushed him to become involved with numerous social projects to deal with the problems; but the results of those projects were short lived, considering the lack of effort and resources involved, leading to unsustainable and temporary impacts. It pushed him to seek different ways to tackle environmental issues. Then, Mr. Sokh started doing a project called “Eco Life Cambodia” which was funded by YSEALI Seeds for the Future 2017. The project aims to push forward an eco-business revolution in Cambodia. They are also developing a future plan to start a zero waste community including a shop, weekly workshop, social campaigns and more. Mr. Sokh also hopes to learn more, especially about eco-entrepreneurship and waste management during the fellowship to improve what he is doing and to share with his green community in Cambodia.

Ms. Thongsavanh recently finished her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental-Technology at The National University of Laos. She has a strong passion for environmental protection as well as reducing negative environmental impacts from human activities. By participating in the YSEALI program, Ms. Thongsavanh aims to gain more knowledge and experience from different perspectives and to share multiple ideas. She would strive to create connection and strong relationships between youth leaders in order to work in harmony, go back to create thoughtful projects and develop our communities to be better places.  She strongly believes that being a receiver does not make things last; learning to be a giver will help to extend the lives of all species.

Phuong Anh "Penelope" VU
Undergraduate Student in Crop Science, Vietnam National University of Agriculture, Vietnam
 
Ms. Vu is a leading student who has received 10 awards and honors during her study at Hanoi University of Agriculture. She has also been actively involved in a wide range of international programs such as the Agriculture Leaders of Tomorrow (Missouri, United States) and an Internship Program on Agriculture (Kyushu University, Japan). Currently, Ms. Vu is the representative of Vietnamese students in the 17th International Student Summit held in Taiwan. This summit focuses on leaders taking action to address environmental issues through greater access to resources and knowledge in order to promote sustainable agriculture. Furthermore, she believes in practical community-based awareness initiatives. By joining the EWC YSEALI Institute, she aims to deepen her understanding of environmental leadership and cultural diversity to advance her upcoming projects.
