Mark Anthony “Marky” Nerida ANCHETA (Philippines)  
 
Mr. Ancheta is a former Philippine-Tohoku Goodwill Ambassador under the JENESYS program. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at Saint Louis College – La Union and is now doing his Master’s thesis in Civil Engineering at De La Salle University – Manila. Environmental management and sustainability serve as the core of his research, which concerns carbon dioxide emission of the construction industry in the Philippines. Engr. Ancheta is eager to learn the best practices of Americans in addressing climate change – how people and policy makers are proactively involved in addressing environmental issues – which can be adopted locally.

Dita ANGGRAINI (Indonesia)

Ms. Anggraini is a graduate engineer from the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics, Universitas Gadjah Mada. She was born in Yogyakarta and is currently pursuing her career as a Project Management Associate at Green School Bali.  She works on projects related to renewable energy and technologies that will push Green School and the surrounding community toward a more sustainable future. Ms. Anggraini is the co-founder of Sustainabletechid, a startup about renewable energy development and consultancy in Indonesia. She is also an alumnus of the YSEALI Internship Program at Green School Bali and the Australia Awards Short Course Program in Renewable Energy Technologies &  Policy.  Ms. Anggraini believes that renewable energy is a strong fighter for many environmental problems. By joining the YSEALI Academic Fellowship program, she hopes that she can expand her knowledge about environmental issues, as well as learn about natural resources management.  She also wants to develop her network with many other youths of her generation who share the same interests of creating a better world.

Pimchana “Kwan” BARAMEE (Thailand)

Ms. Baramee is a 4th year student in Environmental and Resource Studies, Mahidol University. She is very interested in learning about air pollution problems and how to reduce plastic waste in Thailand. Ms. Baramee plans to research about finding a suitable condition to accelerate bioplastic degradation. She was a team member in ENVI 6, a group of her association who worked on an environmental campaign at her university. Ms. Baramee is attending YSEALI to learn about current environmental trends and policies in other countries and worldwide. She hopes to share her ideas on improving environmental quality and learn about efficient management from this program, which she will use to improve her country.

Erin Larissa Alora CANTO (Philippines)

Erin Larissa Canto is currently a third year Marine Biology Student at Iloilo State College of Fisheries. She mostly spends her time volunteering in different Non-government Organizations, from drowning prevention to marine and forests conservation. She is currently the founder of Students Harboring Environmental Leadership and Learning (SHELL), a school organization that empowers students for environmental conservation. She is passionate in serving the Philippine seas in ways she can through coastal resource management, youth empowerment, and sustainable living. Through this program, she hopes to widen her knowledge for environmental conservation, improve her leadership and communication skills, and work together with like-minded youth for the conservation of our environment.

Chau Minh CAO (Vietnam)

Mr. Cao is a Veterinary student who is passionate about wildlife conservation and animal welfare improvement. His ambition is to create a world where humans and animals can cohabitate in harmony and peacefully. Therefore, he founded and is President of Wildhand, a youth club composed of vet students who aim to protect wildlife through awareness, and research about wildlife diseases. Through Wildland, Mr. Cao is promoting a non-single use plastic lifestyle and joining what he calls the “Go Green Team”. He hopes that through YSEALI, he would to create a network of youth leaders, learn significant methods to strengthen Wildhand, and develop it to be a successful NGO that saves more and more animals until his mission is fulfilled.

Sylvia GAN (Singapore)

A Life Science graduate from Yale-NUS College in Singapore, Ms. Gan is currently working as a Field Biologist developing and executing field-based conservation education programs in Southeast Asia. She also runs a project in rural Bali that aims to create economically and environmentally sustainable sources of income for underprivileged villagers. Through the YSEALI Fellowship, Ms. Gan hopes to learn valuable lessons about the role of grassroots activism in solving environmental issues. She looks forward to applying these lessons learnt to supporting local communities back home in their pursuit of sustainable development.

Ashley “Ash” Jia Yik KHO (Malaysia)

Ms. Kho is pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science at the University of Malaysia, Sarawak. She is a full-time student and climate ambassador who loves writing and exploring new places, and is an active advocate for environmental protection. As one of the founding members of Sarawak Eco-Warriors, an environmental group, she hopes to educate and inspire local communities to work together to conserve nature. Ms. Kho was a liaison officer for the International Summer Programme at the University of Malaysia, Sarawak where she educated mainland Chinese students on environmental protection. Her enthusiasm and determination have brought her to Australia as an exchange student where she had the opportunity to learn more about current environmental issues and participate in conservation activities. Through YSEALI, she hopes to work with other passionate youths on a global scale to tackle environmental problems and inspire others back in her community to do the same.

Yohanis “Ais” LAMERE (Indonesia)

Mr. Lamere was originally from Tanimbar, Saumlaki. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Communication Science at Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta. After graduation, Mr. Lamere was sponsored by the YSEALI Internship Program at Green School Bali. He learned about sustainability, education, innovation and community-driven social enterprise. Currently, he is working for a start-up social enterprise motherjungle.org, which aims to empower indigenous mothers in preserving the traditional knowledge as an effort toward cultural and natural conservation. His role as a communication manager brought him the challenge to produce strong, understandable, and creative messages in order to raise environmental awareness and actions. His ultimate vision of joining the YSEALI Academic Fellowship is to expand his networking with people who are on the same page, while at the same time broadening his horizon of innovation around sustainability.

Aini Nazurah MOHD ZI (Malaysia)

Ms. Mohd Zi has recently graduated from University Putra of Malaysia in Agricultural Science. She has a passion for developing an environmental-friendly farming system and a strong interest in sustainable agriculture that will help to maintain the long-term health of crops and soil. The various Permaculture projects that she is joining in Malaysia has enhanced her skills and knowledge on this passion. Currently, Ms. Mohd Zi is a research assistant involved in a project of ‘Ecologically Integrated Green Technology,’ which educates the community on green activities. YSEALI is a precious opportunity for her to explore and gain as much knowledge as possible in the environmental and agricultural fields for her future career preparation. She sees this program also as a platform to develop her idea of building an environmental-friendly farming system in Malaysia, while at the same time improving her individual development.

Htun Lin NAY (Burma)

Mr. Nay is a second year student of Yadanarbon Distance University, Mandalay, Myanmar, with the major of English. He is currently volunteering as a program officer in a program called TEAMS (Teaching English Association for Monastic Schools), which is located in Phaung Daw Oo Monastic School, Mandalay. Mr. Nay has a strong interest in developing the Education of the remote monastic schools as well as rural areas in Myanmar. He hopes to gain new knowledge on the environment and modern waste systems, along with practical experiences from the YSEALI Academic Fellowship. With this, he hopes to lead on programs to provide a clean and green environment in his home country.

Prapawadee “Golf” NUTIPRAPUN (Thailand)

Ms. Nutiprapun graduated with double Master’s degrees from the Faculty of Forestry, Kasetsart University, Thailand and the Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University, Japan. With her Bachelor’s degree in Forest Biological Science, she carried on to earn her Master’s degree in Forest Biology, specializing in Tropical Forestry. She is particularly interested in forests and environments, including the effect of climate change, which is one of critical situation in the present. Through the YSEALI program, Ms. Nutiprapun is hoping to gather new knowledge and experiences, develop her leadership skills, create new networks in environmental issues, and find inspiration to pursue a higher degree. She will bring her knowledge, experiences, and abilities gained from YSEALI to solve the environmental issues in her home country.

Ye “Mason” Lynn PAING (Burma)

Mr. Paing is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree at Myanmar Maritime University, focusing on Marine Engineering. Mr. Paing has been volunteering at several non-profit organizations that relates to waste management, such as Trash Hero Yangon Movements, Clean Yangon, Green Yangon Campaign and Yangon River Clean-Up Campaign since 2017. He was a team leader of Incoming Global Volunteer Program in AIESEC Yangon. Mr. Paing is also one of the organizing committee members of Asia Leadership Treks, which happened in Myanmar at 2016. Focusing on Urban Planning and Effective Environmental Managements, Mr. Paing believes that the YSEALI fellowship will help him to advance himself in learning about global environmental challenges through various lenses. He wants to learn about finding the adequate strategies and solutions toward local problems, the importance of business in natural resource management, and expanding his networks across ASEAN. Mr. Paing celebrates diversity, leadership qualities, and professional skills. By broadening his horizons, Mr. Paing wants to create a positive change for his local community by joining this fellowship.

Loan Thanh PHAM (Vietnam)

Ms. Pham received her Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management from Vietnam Forestry University in 2015. Following her graduation, she worked as an interpreter for an NGO. In 2017, Ms. Pham decided to serve for a local government called the Forestry Department of Muong Nhe district, where she could best apply the techniques and knowledge she was taught at school in reality. She wants to shorten the gap between rural and urban areas in terms of awareness. She also wants to keep the beauty of forests and find proper solutions for how local people can live in harmony with forests. Outside of work, Ms. Pham has spent time working with local children, inspiring in them the importance of English. Normally, the children who live in mountainous areas are short of many means of education, and education is a vital tool for building a better life. Joining YSEALI will satisfy her thirst for knowledge and sharing, allow her to make new friends, and become a motivation to pursue a higher education.

Apriliza “April” Viloria SAGADRACA (Philippines)

Ms. Sagadraca is one of the youngest foresters who specializes in mangrove conservation and protection in the Philippines. She currently leads a biodiversity monitoring team primarily composed of indigenous people at Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority. Driven by her passion and commitment for responsible nature stewardship, she was awarded as Summa cum laude in Bachelor of Science in Forestry in 2014. In the same year, she was declared as National Topnotcher in the Foresters Licensure Examination. Ms. Sagadraca serves as a speaker, moderator and facilitator for various environment-themed conferences such as cave resource management, riparian vegetation analysis, forest rehabilitation and restoration, etc.

Rafid Arifuddin SHIDQI (Indonesia)

Mr. Shidqi has a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Science from the University of Jenderal Soedirman. He is the project leader of “Thresher Shark Project Indonesia” funded by the Conservation Leadership Programme (CLP). It focuses on the transition of shark-hunting communities to sustainable livelihood options in Alor, Indonesia. In 2017, Mr. Shidqi joined the YSEALI SEA Camp Coron and was invited as a mentor for the YSEALI SEA Camp 2018 at Bohol, Philippines. His passion for sharks and rays has enabled him to travel to Indonesia’s most remote and diverse marine environment to understand the wisdom of local coastal communities. He was an intern in 2016 for Savu Sea Alliance, a conservation project funded by WildAid and Vulcan Inc. to transition the biggest manta ray fishing communities in Lamakera, Indonesia. Mr. Shidqi was also invited as the Indonesian representative to the Forum for East Asia and Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC). In 2017, he served as manta rays Conservation Officer at Raja Ampat, Indonesia with the Manta Trust for manta ray conservation, tourism management, and community empowerment programs. Through YSEALI he hopes to learn how markets would help to aid conservation, as well as understand the commitments of U.S. stakeholders to support environmental protection.

Chhayly “Ly” SRENG (Cambodia)

Mr. Sreng is a new graduate in Electronics and Automation from Institute of Technology of Cambodia. Recently, he has been working with a team on a self-delivering robot, which is a vehicle that can send things from one location to another without human effort. His passion is to make the world a better place through the best use of technology with minimal drawbacks. By joining the YSEALI program, Mr. Sreng believes he will be able to bring back tremendous experience back to his home country and use it to draw attention to environmental issues among the next generation of inventors.

Maryrose “Mary” Easter TAPILATU (Indonesia)

Ms. Tapilatu is in her second year of undergraduate study at The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science at The University  of Papua (UNIPA). Being a marine student has made her excited to know more about marine ecosystems and their sustainability. Nowadays, oceans are in a danger situation due to multiple factors such as global climate change, pollution, overfishing, etc. These issues lead Ms. Tapilatu to always apply what she has learnt, both in her classes and the global community, to the sustainability management of marine environment near her hometown. She has done some projects with her community such as sea cleaning program, coastal monitoring, and sea turtle conservation. She has also done an unpaid internship in Raja Ampat’s Coral Restoration Program organized by the R4 SEA (Science, Education, and Awareness) Center. Ms. Tapilatu strongly believes that the YSEALI Fellowship Academic Program will strengthen and build her skills and knowledge to facilitate her to become a great marine scientist and conservationist. And she hopes to make a great contribution with people across countries and the Pacific region to address the global environmental issues.

Rungrot “Bond” TATIYAWONGWIWAT (Thailand)

Mr. Tatiyawongwiwat is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree at the Faculty of Social Administration of Thammasat University, focusing on Community Development. He has intensive social experience working with various kinds of people with different cultural sensitivities. In high school, Mr. Tatiyawongwiwat made policies to deal with the overwhelming amount of plastic bags, which solved the problem within a month. Between February and June of 2018, he and his team recently completed a project to combat the polluted water in a village near their university. He and his team educated and cooperated with villagers to resolve the problems altogether. He personally hopes that he will create strong networks with ASEAN participants through the YSEALI fellowship to regionally cooperate to create an equal society together in the future.

 Souksada “May” TOUNSAVATHDY (Laos)

Ms. Tounsavathdy graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematical Finance. Currently, she is serving as a national intern at the International Organization for Migration in Laos. Previously, Ms. Tounsavathdy was a part-time staff member in an environmental consultant company. She was then motivated to create a volunteer group called “NG” with the purpose of making a positive change for our environment and communities. Through the YSEALI program, Ms. Tounsavathdy hopes to build a strong network with talented people from different countries, learn more about environmental issues and wise solutions, and strengthen her leadership skills. She is especially passionate about convincing and motivating people that it is effortless to preserve our environment; everyone can get involved with it, making a difference toward saving our lives.

Linh Thi Ngoc TRAN (Vietnam)

Ms. Tran graduated from Vinh University in 2016 with a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, and she has maintained a passion for ecological sustainability ever since. Ms. Tran is currently working for the Center of Environment and Biological Resources as a Project Officer. She deals with all affairs related to sustainable development and the preservation of biodiversity for endangered species in North Central Vietnam.  Ms. Tran is also a co-founder and leader of Let’s Do It! Nghe An, where she planned and coordinated the first ever Earth Day Cleanup Celebration in North Central Vietnam. Through YSEALI Ms. Tran hopes to explore different methods for raising awareness concerning environmental issues and solutions for both the public and policy makers; she intends to use this knowledge to benefit her community.

Izazi “Jazie” ZAINI (Brunei)

Ms. Zaini is an Environmental Studies graduate from University of Brunei Darussalam. With her interest mainly in ecotourism, Ms. Zaini wrote a research paper titled ‘The Influence of Eco-Tourism on the Iban Community in Sumbiling Eco Village, Brunei.’ She is now a freelance Tour Guide and has been working closely with some of Brunei’s NGOs on youth work. Ms. Zaini hopes that the YSEALI fellowship will help her to improve her skills and expose her to environmental policies and strategies to combat environmental issues. She wants to expand her network with other participants with similar interests. She would also like to use this fellowship to learn and help inspire change to Brunei.
