Amjad - Middle East Environmental Leadership Program - Palestinian Territories

What three things do you do differently after your program at the East-West Center (SUSI/YSEALI)?
The Middle East Environmental Leadership Program (MEELP) : I'm proud to say the I was the found of MEELP in 2013 and program coordinator for the MEELP for 3 years. MEELP is project-based, community service-focused environmental leadership training program that will held regionally in the Palestinian territories, for about 10 groups It aims to help potential leaders to develop their environmental projects, increase awareness on global environmental issues and develop a network of young environmental leaders from all around the Middle East to exchange perspectives, and share ideas for a better life . MEELP brings together people with different skill sets, including environmental leaders , NGOs representatives, environmentalists, and judges to share ideas, form teams, build projects for a greener Middle East and develop young environmental leaders who are focused on action, not talking.
Improving underground waste containers systems: The idea is mainly about transferring the traditional waste containers into innovative new underground containers system that are adapted and cost effective. The new system is not only environmentally friendly but also beautiful and civilized appearance in contrast
to the traditional systems in addition to its role in saving the streets clean.
My team and I won the 3ed prize in the Start-Up-Cup competition 2015 and succeeded to apply the project on realty.
Robic Education: is the most recent project that I started since May 20116. ROBIC is a business with social impact project. We target children of ages between 5-15 years to teach them some extracurricular environmental related skills, and new sciences such as making some products from house wastes, building robots from wastes, in addition to mental arithmetic. also we sell some intelligence toys and green collections.
Lastly but not last I was selected as an Alumni Leader for the north of Palestine by the US Consulate General. Our mission is to keep the alumni community active and connected by doing social and cultural activities.
What impact did the program have on your career?
Absolutely being an EWC alumni makes you distinguished person. It is about the skills and knowledge you get while being at the EWC hall in Hawaii. It reflects directly and indirectly not only on my career but my life as well I can tell that my experience in SUSI with EWC changed my life and made me a different person who practice continuous development and learning.
I learned the art of beginning from zero and start over again and again despite all difficulties.
Also there are some skills and secrets only can be learned while in the EWC at Hawaii never been gotten at school nor work even. simply it is the passion to do what you want to do.
What issues are you most passionate about in your daily life?
Business with social impact dimensions, Educational issues, Environmental issues
How have you come to see leadership?
In my opinion which related to my experience in this field I can summarize that the heart core of leadership is the ability to inspire others. Inspiring them when they start to lose the way and taking them forward towards the goal. Inspiration means also the ability to take the most fit decision in the suitable time, place, and condition.
Also you will be a greater leader as much as you keep learning something about everything and learning everything in one topic. So it is about expanding your knowledge and living new experiences as learning come from experience.
