Esra - Health & Value - Turkey
What three things do you do differently after your program at the East-West Center (SUSI/YSEALI)?
1) Working with people from culturally diverse backgrounds brought me new perspectives.I'm more open minded, compatible
2) I've become more environmentally-conscious person and I find ways to advocate it to other people.
3) I am more influential as a youth leader due to the diverse set of skills and deep values I've learnt during SUSI.
What impact did the program have on your career?
It has been crucial for me to work for good. That's why I've written one of my graduation thesis on designing lean processes at one of the biggest hospitals of Turkey for cancer patients. Also, I have written my second graduation thesis on disseminating energy culture among university students via designing a serious game. Previously I worked at Microsoft and now at Pfizer. I am happy to be working at a company which gives society back with an amazing purpose of improving lives.
What issues are you most passionate about in your daily life?
I'm most passionate about making our world a better place to live in. One can find millions of ways to make it better such as enhancing neighborhood, helping people with special needs, taking actions to save animals and also protect the environment, volunteering, educating, donating etc.
What you can do is limitless and this makes me pretty excited everyday.
How have you come to see leadership?
I believe that leadership is about being humble in terms of bettering your environment by giving people tools to succeed, helping to lift others up and even helping others to achieve impossible, building common goals and being the solution to problems.
